H.R Giger




H.R Giger was born in Chur Switzerland in 1940

Giger first studied Architecture and industrial design at Zurich's School of Applied Arts and went on to work as an interior designer.In 1968 he began working exclusively as an artist and filmmaker.

In 1978 he won an Oscar for his work on the film Alien where he

produced designs and sculpted many of the creatures and sets.He has worked on many popular films such as Alien,Alien 3,Species and Batman forever to name but a few. He has also worked with many recording artists providing designs for album covers and posters, he even produced a sculpted microphone stand for Jonathan Davies of Korn, some of the bands that he has worked for are Celtic frost,Deborah Harry,Dead Kennedys and Danzig.



Giger produces meticulously rendered paintings and works pred
ominantly in airbrush. His work tends to be monochromatic canvases of surreal landscapes often with an industrial feeling. He is also well known for blending the organic with the mechanical in a style which has become known as Biomechanical.Giger is one of the most popular and succesfull "dark" artists and has succeeded in making his way into popular culture and has inspired many of todays up and coming artists.
